For five years now, the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées has been introducing children to the world of opera through its participative operas for young audiences. 
The Théâtre des Champs-Elysées reaffirms its desire to help children to appropriate a cultural heritage that could intimidate them. Children will be able to discover the world of opera thanks to the participatory opera for young audiences.

Your support allows us to welcome 1000 students from the Priority Education Network and to offer them tailor-made singing workshops.

Accompany the audio description system for blind and partially sighted young people

Thanks to the audio description system, the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées has allowed many blind and partially sighted children and teenagers since the 2015-2016 season to discover the world of live performance, through the participative operas for young audiences.

This season, young blind and partially sighted people will be able to discover Un Elixir d'amour, a work adapted in French from Donizetti's L'Elixir d'amour, thanks to a headset made available to them during the performances. In addition, they will be invited to visit the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées to discover the costumes by touch and to visualize the stage area with the help of a map of the set in Braille.

Support the creation of an adaptation in sign language for deaf children

Opera in sign language? Yes, it is possible. Two interpreters-translators host from the stage, a version intended for hard of hearing or deaf people. The songs are adapted in French sign language, allowing everyone to sing along with the artists and the entire audience.

Beforehand, workshops are organized to learn the songs, so that they are ready for the day of the performance.

Offer specific support for young people with mental disabilities

Children and teenagers with autism or mental disabilities also have their place in the Théâtre des Champs. Their sensitivity makes them very receptive to music, used as a therapeutic tool. In collaboration with the Institut Medico Educatif (IMS), the Externat Medico Pédagogique (EMP) or in day hospital, a specific follow-up is elaborated to help these young people to open to music and performance.

On the occasion of the participative opera for young people, the Theatre continues to integrate these young people into its policy of openness, in a climate of listening and respect, thanks to specific workshops to prepare them for the show and to teach them how to sing.
